Tonight is TNB: Join Tim Miller, Sarah Longwell, Mona Charen, and special guest Dave Weigel. They’re going to talk about the election, obviously. Thursday, 8pm Eastern, only for Bulwark+ 1. Mixed MessagesWe’ve talked about this subject before, but I want to hit it again. Chris Sununu is running for reelection as New Hampshire’s governor. According to him, life in New Hampshire is great and the state’s economy is thriving. 49 other states hope to be like New Hampshire. We are #1 in personal and economic FREEDOM, #1 for public safety, and a top state for education. Simply put – New Hampshire is the ENVY of the Nation. NH is where businesses want to be. Yesterday we celebrated the opening of THREE new business spaces at the Granite State Business park in Rochester. Congrats to LDI Solutions, Pella Windows and Doors, and Prep Partners. 200k square feet of new commercial space in the Lilac City! 🚧SHOVEL READY: $50M of our historic InvestNH Fund was UNANIMOUSLY approved today. This isn't just a plan, these are shovel-ready projects to build thousands of new, affordable units across the Granite State. A BIG WIN for Granite Staters and our economy. And more to come! NH’s Monadnock Region is BOOMING + OPEN for tourism! Today I joined Ashok Patel & his team for the grand opening of the Hampton Inn & Suites in Keene, the 1st new hotel in Keene since 08. Whether it’s a staycation in NH or you’re from out of town, come on over for NH Hospitality! Thanks for pointing out that the budgets under my administration have produced a surplus and unprecedented opportunity for the Granite State, @TomShermanNH. Glad to know you appreciate our smart fiscal management! Things sound pretty great in New Hampshire! The economy is booming, there’s a budget surplus, businesses are opening. The Granite State is the envy of America. Also: New Hampshire has three Democrats up for reelection next week and voters must replace them with Republicans because people in New Hampshire are freezing and starving about to be homeless. American carnage! Here are the arguments of the Republicans running for Senate and NH’s two House seats: DON BOLDUC: Under Joe Biden and Maggie Hassan, “you can’t even buy a house, you can’t even rent property, you can’t even feed your children, you can’t even heat your home. That is the ultimate tax.” #NHSen Granite Staters, you have to ask yourselves: are you better off today than you were 2 yrs ago? You weren't making choices between heating & eating. I wasn't holding the hands of parents in tears. It's a sad situation we're in because of the policies of @JoeBiden & @SenatorHassan. New Hampshire is facing one of the most severe energy crises in our state's history, and prices continue to skyrocket Rather than stand up for Granite Staters who are choosing between heating & eating, @ChrisPappasNH celebrates with the people who got us into this mess As Granite Staters struggle to heat their homes, buy groceries, pay their mortgage and fill their tank, Ann is convinced that the best play is to spew Democrat propaganda about how great everything is going. Except nobody is convinced. #nh02 #nhpolitics https://t.co/73gk0rDSTl Ann McLane Kuster @RepAnnieKuster So which is it? Is New Hampshire the envy of America, with businesses booming and the economy humming? Or are the people of New Hampshire huddled in the cold, foraging for berries because they can’t afford heat, food, or even an apartment? The Republican party says: Both! It will be revealing to see how New Hampshire voters respond to these schizophrenic messages.¹ 2. Performative GovernanceRemember when Ron DeSantis sent his special voter police to round up people who’d committed vote fraud in 2020?² As was suspected at the time, those arrests aren’t holding up very well:
Spoiler: These arrests aren’t going to hold up in court. But that’s par for DeSantis, whose governing style is heavily tilted in favor of passing performative, unconstitutional legislation that fails legals tests. Don’t worry: He’s going to get reelected, too, because 3. Vance 2028. Probably.Ohioans are going to send J.D. Vance to the Senate even though they kind of hate him.
I have a theory about nat-con elites like Vance: They are motivated primarily by dislike of their neighbors and peers. They find the social and political accoutrements of upperclass life insipid. And so they have reacted by throwing in with “The People,” even though they don’t actually know (or like) The People. And would never, in a million years, allow their kids to marry one of these untermenschen. 1 By “interesting,” I mean “horrifying.” 2 And by “people” I mean, “not the kind of nice white people who commit voting fraud at the Villages.” You’re a free subscriber to The Triad.
